 Do you have the passion and the skills required to lead the National Congenital Heart Disease Audit to the next phase of Quality Improvement?

We are looking for a Consultant Congenital Cardiologist or Surgeon to provide clinical leadership for the National Congenital Heart Disease Audit (NCHDA), one of the six specialist domains of the National Cardiovascular Audit Programme (NCAP), managed by the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR).  The NCAP, funded by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), is hosted at Barts Health NHS Trust which holds the NCAP contract.  NICOR is the delivery arm of the NCAP contract.

The appointment will be made by NICOR, in consultation with the British Congenital Cardiac Association (BCCA) and the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS), using the Barts Health recruitment process. The position reports to the Director of NICOR and the Chair of the NCAP Operational and Methodology (NOM) Group.  The post holder will work closely with the Chair of the NOM Group, NICOR Chief Operating Officer, other NCAP domain clinical leads and the NICOR Delivery Team.  The post holder will:

  • Chair multi-disciplinary NCHDA Domain Expert Group (DEG) meetings, monthly NCHDA Project Management teleconferences, and any other ad-hoc NCHDA meetings as required;
  • Participate in monthly NOM Group meetings and bi-monthly Professional Liaison Group (PLG) meetings; and
  • Act as an ambassador for NICOR, including quarterly BCCA Council and quarterly Congenital Heart Services Clinical Reference Group meetings.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional excellence, an understanding of national audit and Quality Improvement methodology at a National Level and the necessary management skills to ensure timely delivery of the agreed NCAP outputs, as well as to effectively develop and enhance the partnerships between the NICOR and its stakeholders (BCCA, SCTS, other professional societies, hospitals, commissioners, regulators, patients and the public, and the funders).
