The National Cardiac Audit Programme (NCAP) has today (Tuesday 1 July 2025) launched a new dataset for the National Adult Cardiac Surgery Audit (NACSA).

Created to improve data quality, the new dataset enhances how the UK monitors and evaluates major aortic surgery in adults across cardiac surgery centres. The improvements, include capturing additional data (ethnicity) and will support EuroSCORE 3, a popular cardiac surgery risk prediction model currently in development.

The dataset gives greater transparency and is an invaluable resource for clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals alike. You can view the NACSA dataset on the NICOR Datasets webpage.

NACSA captures all adult cardiac surgical procedures performed in NHS cardiac surgery units, data from three private hospitals and one centre in the Republic of Ireland. The audit delivers vital insights into national surgical activity, trends, and key quality metrics – to support improvements and better outcomes for patients.
