European Society of Cardiology: a professional association for cardiologists across Europe, which aims to facilitate improved diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in Europe. It runs numerous education and training events, and edits and publishes nine journals on cardiology. The ESC has produced numerous Clinical Practice Guidelines, which the audit uses, along with NICE guidance, as benchmarks for good practice.
