NICOR launches new registry for Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Valve (TMTV)

NHS England has commissioned NICOR to develop and manage a registry for transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve (TMTV) procedures. These procedures are performed when these valves have significant leaks and when open heart surgery is deemed unsuitable or too risky. Severe leaks of these valves can lead to breathlessness, fatigue, swelling of the legs and abnormal heart rhythms, all of which result in an impaired quality of life for the patient and can adversely affect survival.

This is the first of a number of new registries for new heart procedures. The transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve registry will collect information from all centres that perform these procedures. All procedures should be included. Information has been sent to each centre about how to gain access and how to use the registry. NICOR has gained the appropriate approvals to manage this registry, from which information will be passed back to the participating hospitals on how well they are performing in the delivery of their local programmes. This is part of ensuring that high quality care is delivered by all centres.

Reports from the registry will be available once the database has sufficient patients. The dataset for this registry is available via the Datasets and User Guides web page.
